My days are filled with cats. Sure, I make cute designs and make cool prints and necklaces…but aside from that – it’s pretty much all cats all day. I have several – all indoor as I believe indoor cats are healthier, happier and live longer. But this means cleaning cat boxes, dehairing every surface in the house and being ever watchful for that occasional spraying…Mouse – I’m looking at you.
My brother, and to be honest, probably a good portion of the world think it’s crazy to devote so much time, energy, effort and let’s be honest, money to the care of a bunch of cats. Cats, they cry! Perhaps they are right…there are certainly times when I question my own sanity – Mouse…looking at you again. But deep down, I do believe that how we treat animals is a reflection of our own humanity. I try in some small way to exemplify the love of God through my love for animals. Most of my cats and the two dogs – are all here as some form of rescue. Taking a dog from a friend unable to continue his care…rescuing a couple kittens in a snow storm and then the number of litters of kittens resulting from thoughtless and careless pet owners who allow their unneutered animals outdoors. Some kittens I have successfully found homes for…others..ended up staying. Whether I like it or not, Most days I like it. Some days not. It would be nice to get in the car sometimes and not look down and just cringe at all the hair covering my clothes, purse…who knows what else. It would be nice not to have scrub every surface, vacuum 3 times and clean every cat box constantly and double that if company is coming. It would be nice to have room to turn over in bed at night. It would be cheaper, that’s for sure.
Alas, my lot in life – and my fatal weakness.
